SenseAware powered by FedEx is just the latest example of how the package delivery giant is working to ensure its customers’ shipments arrive “intact and on time,” the company’s standard for excellence. Chris Swearingen, marketing manager, vertical market development of SenseAware by FedEx, talked about the solution during his ITEXPO (News - Alert) keynote today in Miami.

First Deployed to Health Care and Life Sciences Industries, Now Available to All Customers

MEMPHIS, Tenn., Jan. 23, 2012—FedEx Corp. (NYSE: FDX) has announced it is expanding the availability of its SenseAware℠ powered by FedEx service which provides customers with near real-time tracking and increased visibility into their shipments.

First announced in November 2009, the next-generation information service was initially available to customers in the healthcare and life sciences industries. Now it is available to customers in all industries—such as aerospace, the arts, financial institutions and more—who can benefit from this added level of visibility and monitoring.

SenseAware℠ is a comprehensive tracking service that provides near real-time data about customer shipments and the ability to share that information collaboratively with business partners. A multi-sensor device, deeply integrated with a powerful web-based application, enables customers to stay connected to their shipments. The SenseAware service can provide:

  • The shipment's current location
  • Accurate temperature readings
  • When a shipment is opened or if the contents have been exposed to light
  • Relative humidity and barometric pressure readings

SenseAware can be easily adopted without infrastructure or large managed-service commitments. The added flexibility of the SenseAware device enables it to be used for single shipments or with large palletized shipments. Customers simply set up a shipment in the SenseAware application and place the activated device in the package before shipping.

SenseAware continues to improve thanks to customer-driven feedback and a process we call "co-creation." Customers can now measure and monitor humidity and barometric pressure in near real-time with SenseAware. Not only is this extended visibility useful during a sensitive shipment but also for even more accurate monitoring of storage, packaging and manufacturing facilities where a controlled environment is critical.

In order to give customers yet another layer of shipment visibility and control, SenseAware .has made FedEx Priority Alert® intervention services for FedEx Priority Overnight® and FedEx First Overnight® shipments easier to use.* When a customer uses this intervention service, FedEx Priority Alert team members will automatically monitor shipments right along with the customer — receiving alerts and intervening when necessary.
